Set-up for the Western Dance is Saturday, 11/3, at 10:00 am. Bring raffle items at that time (please make sure they are put together and ready to set out). Approximately 100 tickets have been sold.

Paul C. has the speaker list for 2013. There are several people who would like to come and speak to us so let's get them signed up.

Plans for the Children's Christmas Party are moving along. The committee is requesting all members bring in two toys (one each for a boy and girl), for ages 2-12 years, at a cost between $10-$30 beginning at the 11/29 meeting. There will be a raffle for two San Francisco Bulls hockey tickets (donated by Craig).

Hogie has 38 car wash tickets left. Your car will need a good cleaning after this rain.

Per David, the Holiday party will be later in the year or early next year.

Tom Morton introduced this morning's speaker, Sibley Simon. Sibley is involved with the restoration of Evergreen Cemetery. The cemetery was "founded" in 1850. At that time there were only Catholic cemeteries and those arriving, due to the Gold Rush, were not all Catholic's, and needed a place for their final rest. Sibley shared quite a bit of the history of some of the people buried there. Volunteers are always welcome to help with the maintenance of the cemetery. Every Monday a group from the Homeless Service Center join other volunteers in the clearing of brush and trees, redefining paths, and general maintenance. Several tombstones have been uncovered during this process. There are also docents available for tours. If interested, there is a Saturday volunteer day set for 11/17 from 9:45-1:00. You can just show up ready to work. Tools, gloves, lunch, etc. will be provided. Thank you Tom and Sibley, this was a very interesting presentation.

Next week's detective is Tom M. Jeannene won the 50/50.

Have a great week!

There will be an interclub on 11/8 at Los Gatos at noon. Lou is sending around a sign-up sheet. Stan, Tim, Floyd, Bert, and Bob D. visited the Scotts Valley club yesterday for the October interclub. We're off to a good start for an interclub each month.

DCM will be in December.

Brook Moore says "Aloha."

Stan reported there will be a Western Dance meeting at his house tomorrow, Friday, 10/26, at 10:00 am. Please show up and support this fund raiser. Tom B. needs tickets turned in by next meeting so there is a count for the amount of food to buy. Also, remember to get raffle gifts to Stan as soon as possible.

David is thinking about a date for the Thanksgiving dinner. This may not be until after the first of the year since it so busy this time of the year.

Daryl presented Jeannene with her president's pin and Bob D. with a certificate of appreciation for his year as president.

There will be a planning meeting for the Children's Christmas Party after today's meeting.

Joanie handed out the See's candy flyer and order sheet. Orders are due back to Joanie by November 29th.

Richard was detective this morning. Everyone happy with the Giants win in game 1 of the World Series paid; if they're hoping the Giants win game 2 they paid; if they want to see the Giants win the series they paid; Happy/Sad: Chuck happy $5 off to game 2; Lou happy $5 for newest granddaughter; Ed happy $10 to be back; Georgia sad $$ Cardinal's lost.

Mike introduce Sister Patti Doyle from the Villa Maria del Mar Retreat Center. Sister Patti is celebrating her 50th anniversary with the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM). She taught for10 years and has spent the rest of her time in administration. She is currently the director of the Villa. Besides a lovely chapel, which is available for weddings and funerals, the villa also provides a retreat facility. Sister Patti gave us a history of the villa, which was built in 1906, initially as a hotel, and bought by the SNJM, from the Catholic Ladies Aide, in 1963. The villa is a non-profit retreat center that welcomes people of all faiths. Their web site is: www.villamariadelmar.org. Thank you Mike and Sister Patti.

Brian is next week's detective. Ed won the 50/50.

As a postscript: since we will not have our usual influx of toys for the children's Christmas party this year the committee will be asking members to bring in two toys (one for a boy and one for a girl). The toys should be in the price range of $10-$30. We will be collecting toys at meetings between November 29th and December 13th. For each toy brought in you will receive a raffle ticket for a raffle gift generously donated by Craig. This will be announced at the next few meetings (since not everyone reads the meetings notes!).

Have a great week!
